Dr. Yo Joong “YJ” Choe is an incoming Assistant Professor of Decision Sciences at INSEAD and a Faraco Family Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Chicago’s Data Science Institute. He received a joint Ph.D. in Statistics and Machine Learning from Carnegie Mellon University in 2023. His research interests include game-theoretic statistics and sequential anytime-valid inference (“SAVI”); reliable forecast evaluation; and representation geometry in large language models. Dr. Choe’s research has been recognized with Faraco Family Postdoctoral Fellowship for Outstanding Research (2025), Best Paper Award at ICML Workshop on Mechanistic Interpretability (2024), and Franklin V. Taylor Memorial Award by the IEEE SMC Society (2018). In the past, Dr. Choe worked as a Research Scientist at Kakao and Kakao Brain, where he helped develop large-scale deep learning models and datasets for practical NLP problems.
