Dr. Yo Joong “YJ” Choe is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Chicago’s Data Science Institute. He received a joint Ph.D. in Statistics and Machine Learning from Carnegie Mellon University in 2023. His research interests include sequential anytime-valid inference (“SAVI”); reliable forecast and model evaluation; and interpretability and controllability of LLMs. Dr. Choe’s research has been recognized with the Best Paper Award at the ICML Workshop on Mechanistic Interpretability (2024), a Poster Award with research grant by Citadel Securities (2022), and the Franklin V. Taylor Memorial Award by the IEEE SMC Society (2018). In the recent past, Dr. Choe worked as a Research Scientist at Kakao and Kakao Brain, where he developed large deep learning models as well as resources for practical natural language processing problems.
